Hello folks,
I know ya'll have noticed the dearth of content this month, and I apologise to all of you about that. Those who are still here: I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Some thanks goes out to my guest writer Clarke for his contributions during my vacation.
The excuse? My writing for class ramped up significantly this semester (combined with my writing at Homotron), and so I had to enact a self-imposed hiatus from this blog as it neither A) pays the bills or B) gets me a good grade. I hope you will understand why I had to do it.
However, I've established my rhythm again and so now I'm prepared to make a comeback, and boy do I have a long list of links ready to burst! I may have not been writing here, but my pack rat tendencies still collected interesting things from all over the tubes.
So without further ado: I'm BACK!
I have written a four part series of articles entitled "The State of the Mac Nation 2008" over on Homotron.net where I reviewed everything Apple related that happened in 2007, complete with my insights and conjectures on how some of the new stuff (like the iPhone) came about. I worked pretty hard on this series of articles and I think they turned out pretty good. A lot of people who've read them have given me kudos for them. Here's the links:
The State of the Mac Nation 2008, Part 1: Desktops, Laptops, & Professional Hardware
The State of the Mac Nation 2008, Part 2: iPod + iPhone
The State of the Mac Nation 2008, Part 3: iTunes + Other Apple Software
The State of the Mac Nation 2008, Part 4: Macworld Keynote Rumours and Predictions
And tomorrow (Tuesday, January 15) I'll be doing a live post with updates and commentary during Steve Jobs's keynote starting at 12PM. Stay tuned at Homotron.net if you want to read my commentary!
I'm so excited!
(Coincidentally, this series of articles is precisely why I've been absent from theInput during the last few days)
As you can no doubt tell, I'm on a week long break as I visit the family in Houston, TX.
My regular posting will resume next week when I get back to Miami, though I will no doubt post the random story here or there as I stumble across it (I can't keep away from the Internet for even a week; I'm so weak!)
Until then, Happy Holidays to everyone!
I apologise for the lack of updates recently. I was unable to log into the administration area of the blog for a couple of days, and I spent a good amount of time trying to resolve that issue myself.
I found out today that it was caused by my web hosts upgrading their server software. Since Movable Type isn't completely portable to all OS's, this broke the administration scripts.
Luckily, my web hosting company, Total Choice Hosting, has a great tech support department, so they got my blog back up and running with a few code modifications within a couple of hours after I told them of the issue.
In case any of you out there run into the same issue with your hosts, I'm told the solution is to add the following code into /lib/MT/Bootstrap.pm:
$ENV{'MT_HOME'} = '/home/username/path-to/cgi-bin/mt';
I had tried a similar solution, but apparently in the wrong cgi files. Thanks, Total Choice. I've gotten nothing but good service from them, and they have active MT users among the administration, so it helps a great deal that they know how to help us MT users.
I should be back to my regular posting schedule by tomorrow.
In case you didn't notice in the previous entry below, it was not written by yours truly, but by someone new to theInput!
I've been toying with the idea of adding another author here at theInput, and Clarke has brought some interesting links to my attention and continually impressed me with his own lists of links on his LiveJournal. He's a full fledge linguist, unlike my hobbyist self, so I'm sure you'll see a fair share of linguistics links coming from him.
He'll be a great addition to the bits of detritus collected here.
So without further ado, a big welcome to Clarke Hyrne here at theInput!
Yes, I'm aware I did not post on Monday and it's the first time I skipped a day, but I promise to make up for it by posting double my usual two posts today.
Continuing my tradition of following lots of politics/heavy posts with cute breaks, I bring you, via Cute Overload, the purring kitty page.
Perfect for people like me who love the purring kitty sound but are either allergic or aren't allowed to have their own cats. (*grumble*)
I've added a new feature to theInput.net: the ability to subscribe to comment threads. This will allow any commenter on an entry to receive an e-mail anytime someone else comments on that entry, making it easier to keep up with conversations on the site.
In order to subscribe to the comments on an entry, just make sure the box labeled "Receive email notification of further comments" is checked when you submit a comment, and that you have provided an e-mail so that you can be reached. To unsubscribe, merely uncheck the box next time you make a comment on that entry.
